ADAPT researcher organises workshop for Young Female Researchers in Speech

30 August 2023

ADAPT researcher, Iona Gessinger (UCD), together with colleagues from the Sigmedia Group at TCD (Ayushi Pandey), the Universities of Edinburgh (Sarenne Wallbridge, Johannah O’Mahony) and Southampton (Jennifer Williams), Meta AI (Leda Sari), and the Living Tongues Institute of Endangered Languages (Pamir Gogoi), recently ran the 7th edition of the Young Female Researchers in Speech Workshop (YFRSW), a satellite event of the Interspeech 2023 conference, supported by the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA).

This workshop for female Bachelors and Masters students took place on Aug 19th, 2023, in the O’Reilly Institute at TCD. With the help of its generous sponsors, YFRSW 2023 was able to invite 16 students from the USA, India, China, Portugal, Finland, Germany, UK, the Netherlands, and Switzerland to Dublin, to present their projects in speech science and technology at the workshop and subsequently participate in the Interspeech 2023 conference. PhD students and senior experts from academia and industry joined YFRSW 2023 for panel and mentoring sessions.

We look back on a very enjoyable and productive meeting that strengthened the academic exchange and networking of female researchers in the speech community!
