Virtual Record Treasury Webinar Brought Women’s Revolutionary Histories to the Fore

16 June 2026

The Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland, in partnership with the Irish Historical Society, the Ulster Society for Irish Historical Studies, and the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute, recently hosted a webinar entitled Women in Revolution: From the Margins to the Centre.

The event featured presentations by ADAPT academic Prof. Jane Ohlmeyer (Trinity College Dublin), Dr. Catriona Kennedy (University of York), and Prof. Lindsey Earner-Byrne (Trinity College Dublin), who explored the experiences and contributions of women in revolutionary movements from the seventeenth century through the Age of Revolutions and the Irish Revolution of the twentieth century.

The speakers highlighted the central role played by women in shaping revolutionary change across different historical periods. A panel discussion and audience Q&A followed, examining both continuities and differences in women’s revolutionary experiences and drawing connections across centuries.

The webinar was presented in conjunction with States of Independence: Ireland and the American Revolution 250 Years Later, a curated collection scheduled for release on the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland in June 2026.
