11 August 2025

On Tuesday, July 15th, TRANSMIXR hosted a webinar titled “Deep Dive into How Immersive Tools Strengthen Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI)”. Organised by TRANSMIXR partner Sparknews, the session brought together leading voices in XR, DEI, and accessibility to explore how immersive technologies, including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Extended Reality (XR), can be harnessed to create a more inclusive and equitable future.

The expert panel featured:

  • Sarune Savickaite, PhD – XR specialist and neurodiverse psychologist from the University of Exeter, with a research focus on accessibility and inclusion.
  • Juliette Vauchez – from Immersion to represent the consortium, with her expertise in human factors.
They shared practical examples, research findings, and strategic frameworks for integrating DEI principles into the design and application of immersive tools.

The session began with an overview of TRANSMIXR’s DEI Guide, a framework designed to support media and technology professionals in embedding DEI considerations into content creation and technological development. This was followed by a vibrant roundtable discussion where the speakers explored real-world use cases, challenges, and the critical need for intentional design in XR and AI environments.

Attendees also had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers during a live Q&A session, raising thoughtful questions about representation, inclusive design, and the future role of immersive media in education, training, and storytelling.
