ADAPT Academics Elected Fellows of Trinity College Dublin

28 April 2025

Five ADAPT academics have been elected as Fellows of Trinity College Dublin.  The announcement was made during the University’s annual Trinity Monday ceremony today by the Provost of Trinity College Dublin, Dr Linda Doyle.

Trinity Monday is a celebrated tradition dating back to the foundation of the university in 1592.  During the formal proceedings in Front Square, the Provost read the names of the new Scholars and Fellows, recognising their exceptional achievements in research, education, and academic leadership.

This year’s cohort includes five academics from the ADAPT Centre:

  • Professor John Kelleher, Professor of Computer Science, renowned for his contributions to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing.
  • Professor Dave Lewis, from the School of Computer Science and Statistics, a leader in responsible AI, data governance, and ethical AI.
  • Professor Ashish Kumar Jha, Trinity Business School, an expert in strategic management, technology innovation, and digital transformation.
  • Professor John Dinsmore, an Ussher Associate Professor of Digital Health and Integrated Care and Deputy Director of the Trinity Centre for Practice and Healthcare Innovation (TCPHI) at the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SNM) and a Funded Invesitgator with ADAPT.
  • Professor Elaine Uí Dhonnchadha, Assistant Professor in Computational Linguistics and M.Phil Coordinator for the Centre for Language and Communication Studies and an Academic Collaborator with ADAPT.

Election to Fellowship is one of the highest academic honours at Trinity, awarded to individuals who have demonstrated sustained excellence and made significant contributions to their disciplines.  It also reflects the University’s recognition of leadership in advancing research of societal and global importance.

In her address, Provost Doyle remarked: “These are fantastic academic achievements, and the new Fellows and Scholars deserve to feel very proud today.  Their commitment and courage reflect the very best of our community. Comhghairdeas ó chroí libh.”

The election of Professors Kelleher, Lewis, and Jha as Fellows not only honours their individual accomplishments but also underscores ADAPT’s role at the forefront of interdisciplinary research and innovation.

In total, Trinity College Dublin announced the election of 38 new Fellows, 8 new Professorial Fellows, and 72 new Scholars across a range of disciplines, reaffirming the vibrancy and excellence of the university’s academic community.  A full list is available on the Trinity website here.
