The FORSEE Project Shares First-Year Findings at EU AI Rights and Governance Event in Malta

18 June 2026

Prof. Aphra Kerr (UCD), co-PI on the FORSEE (Forging Successful AI Applications for European Economy and Society) project, recently presented key findings from the project’s  first year at a major European conference focused on artificial intelligence, fundamental rights, and governance in Valletta, Malta.

The presentation took place at the concluding event of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Rights (EUCIT), held in conjunction with the Reinforcing Equality and Fundamental Rights in an Artificial Intelligence-Maintained Environment (REFRAIME) project.

The event brought together academics, policymakers, legal experts, and practitioners to explore the growing impact of AI on the rule of law, ethics, accountability, and the protection of fundamental rights across the European Union.

Participants shared perspectives on the opportunities and challenges presented by AI, while also examining practical resources developed through the REFRAIME project, including its toolkit designed to support rights-based approaches to AI governance.

The FORSEE project is funded by Horzion Europe and brings together leading experts from universities, research institutions, and think tanks across Europe. The project analyses existing documents, discourses and successful AI applications, to identify different perspectives on success, including those that go beyond technological and economic criteria. Overall the project aims to  strengthen European AI capabilities while supporting the development of effective EU regulatory frameworks and risk monitoring.
