On June 23rd, ML Dublin held a well-attended and engaging event sponsored by Millennium Management, a global alternative investment firm. The gathering took place at Millennium’s Dublin office in Central Quay, where researchers, technologists, and AI professionals came together for an evening of focused talks on machine learning and AI innovation.
Paolo Aloe, Global Head of Operations, Middle Office and Corporate Technology at Millennium, led with an overview of how technology is integrated across the firm. He emphasised how Millennium’s global scale and unified operating model helps enable teams to identify the most promising use cases for GenAI.
Pat Lenihan, who leads the Dublin Infrastructure Team Lead, presented on “Agentic AI Shaping Investment Management.” He outlined innovative AI frameworks including natural language SQL querying, multi-step research agents, and cross-model LLM standardisation techniques.
From the ADAPT Centre at Trinity College Dublin, Research Fellow Yasmin Moslem showcased her recent research tackling the challenge of deploying large audio-language models in production: “Efficient Speech Translation through Model Compression and Knowledge Distillation.” Her work employs a combination of iterative layer pruning, quantisation, and knowledge distillation to achieve high levels of model compression while retaining the quality of speech translation.
Also from ADAPT, PhD researcher Awais Akbar shared his work on Proactive Intelligent Personalised Agents. His simulation-based framework enables the creation and iterative refinement of AI agents that can act on behalf of users in personalised, context-aware ways. He detailed the importance of human-in-the-loop methods in adapting these systems to evolving user needs.
This event not only featured thought-provoking research and technological insights but also fostered valuable networking opportunities among attendees. With limited capacity and strong attendance, it underscored the growing interest in advanced AI in Dublin.
