SignON shortlisted for Social Impact Award at the Analytics & AI Awards 2024

03 June 2024

SignON, led by ADAPT Principal Investigator and previous Deputy Director Prof. Andy Way at DCU, has recently been shortlisted for the Social Impact Award at the Analytics & AI Awards 2024.

The SignON project was designed to bridge the communication gap between spoken language users and deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) sign language users. During the project, the team developed a free, open application and framework capable of converting between video, audio, and text, and translating between sign and spoken languages. The project’s ultimate goal was to facilitate the fair, unbiased, and inclusive dissemination of information and digital content across European society. The DHH communities were directly involved at all stages of the project, which led to SignON winning the prestigious 2023 SFI Award for Engaged Research.

The winners of each category will be determined by a judging panel in the coming weeks and announced live at the Gala Awards Black Tie Dinner on June 13th at the Mansion House, Dublin, hosted by Síle Seoige and Lorcan Malone.

In addition, SignON was also recently shortlisted for the Most Innovative Transformation Award at the Digital Transformation Awards 2024, marking another significant achievement for the project.
