Dublin, 10th June: Today, Research Ireland has launched Rinn, a new national research network comprising seven centres focused on strategic areas including artificial intelligence, advanced therapies, energy, medical devices, pharma and biopharma, quantum science and semiconductors. Designed to strengthen collaboration and increase the scale of national research efforts, the Rinn programme represents a significant evolution in how research is conducted in Ireland.
Rinn AI is one of the new national centres within the network and will serve as a hub for data science and artificial intelligence research. The centre is built on the foundations established by the Research Ireland ADAPT Centre for AI-Driven Digital Content Technology and the Insight Research Ireland Centre for Data Analytics, both of which have played a major role in shaping Ireland’s AI and data research ecosystem for over 10 years.
Together, ADAPT and Insight have helped create a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary and internationally connected research community. Their work has advanced areas including data analytics, AI, language and media technologies, connected health, responsible innovation, human-centred AI, public engagement and policy-relevant research, while building strong partnerships across academia, industry, government and civil society.
Building on this legacy, Rinn AI brings together researchers from across Ireland in a coordinated national effort to advance cutting-edge AI and data science research. The centre aims to address pressing societal and economic challenges while supporting Ireland’s ambition to remain at the forefront of international AI research and innovation.
