TRANSMIXR partners from the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision (NISV) have launched Beyond Virtual Museums, a practical workbook designed to push cultural heritage institutions beyond traditional virtual museum models.
From augmented and virtual reality to mixed reality, the resource helps users explore how interactive, multi-sensory tools can enhance engagement. It provides a five-part activity sequence that takes you from an initial idea to a polished, pitch-ready concept. It’s aimed at cultural heritage professionals, students, researchers, XR professionals and UX designers, and even sceptics who want to examine the strengths and limits of immersive tech.
Led by Dr. Niall Murray, a researcher at TUS and the ADAPT Centre, TRANSMIXR is focused on developing innovative tools for industries such as news media, broadcasting, performing arts, and cultural heritage. These tools aim to help organisations better understand large-scale media content and deliver next-generation immersive experiences powered by Social XR technologies.
