New Start-up MoveAhead Games Uses Video Games to Encourage Movement in Children

MoveAhead Games is a new Start-Up from ADAPT and DCU (School of Health and Human Performance) that aims to address poor movement capabilities of Irish children as highlighted in recent studies (full study) conducted by DCU (School of Health and Human Performance) and INSIGHT.

MoveAhead Games aim to transform part of the problem – sedentary online interactions and video gameplay – into part of the solution. The project is initially focused on development of motion-controlled educational video games targeting improvements in the ‘building blocks’ of children’s movement performance (e.g. hopping, jumping, throwing, etc.) for health and cognitive benefits. The project also focuses on capturing movement data to support the development of middleware capable of powering accurate and age-appropriate AI driven movement-based applications across multiple platforms (video gaming, Smart toys, Smart TVs, health applications etc.).
