ML Dublin officially launched its autumn programme with a Document AI-focused meet-up held on the 30th September at DocuSign’s offices in Grand Canal Dock, Dublin. The event brought together practitioners, researchers, students, and AI enthusiasts from across the Dublin technology community for an evening of presentations and networking.
The event featured three expert speakers exploring the growing role of artificial intelligence in document analysis, legal technology, and digital archives.
Dr. Souleiman Hasan, Applied Science Manager at DocuSign, opened the session with a presentation on clause extraction from legal documents, highlighting how advanced AI technologies are being used to analyse and understand complex legal content. He also discussed the wider impact of digital document workflows, including the efficiencies created through electronic signature solutions.
Claudia Silva Battagin, Doctoral Candidate in Law at Trinity College Dublin and researcher with the EU Horizon Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network HARNESS, provided a legal perspective on document intelligence and the evolving use of AI within the legal profession.
She examined the EU’s threefold regulatory strategy, focusing on the AI Act, which introduced binding, risk-based rules for artificial intelligence to promote trustworthy, human-centric systems, strengthen European competitiveness and protect the integrity of the EU’s digital single market.
The final presentation was delivered by Dr. Lynn Kilgallon, Digital Humanities Lead at the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland, who introduced the project’s work in recovering, preserving, and analysing thousands of historical Irish records through digital technologies.
The evening began with networking and concluded with further discussion among attendees, providing opportunities for knowledge sharing and collaboration within Dublin’s AI community.
