MESO Lab Launches Blog to Tackle AI’s Impact on Education

23 April 2026

MESO Lab has launched a new blog focused on the growing role of artificial intelligence in education, opening with a question already on many teachers’ minds: will AI make their work easier, or harder?

The initiative aims to explore complex issues at the intersection of AI and teaching over the coming months, with a focus on what is actually happening in classrooms and what it means for educators.

Recent figures highlight the tension. While 91% of Irish teachers say they want to learn more about AI in education, more than 80% are concerned it could increase their workload. According to MESO Lab, both perspectives can coexist, largely because AI is often treated as a single, uniform concept when it is anything but.

The blog argues that different uses of AI raise fundamentally different questions. A teacher using tools like ChatGPT to draft lesson plans is not the same as a student using AI to write an essay. Similarly, concerns around data privacy, professional autonomy, and workload each require separate, focused discussion.

By breaking these issues apart, MESO Lab hopes to move the conversation beyond broad generalisations. Its first post addresses a central question: are teachers right to be cautious about AI’s growing presence in education? Read it here.
