MESO Lab has begun the process of spinning out from the ADAPT Centre and Trinity College Dublin, marking a significant milestone in the commercialisation of its research-driven educational technology.
Founded by teacher and CEO Dr Chris Byrne, MESO develops curriculum-grounded artificial intelligence for education. Unlike generic AI tools that generate content from user prompts, MESO’s platform creates lesson plans, assessments and study guides from real classroom context, ensuring outputs are aligned with curriculum requirements and grounded in educational research.
The company’s technology is based on Dr Byrne’s research in curriculum change and the psychology of educational decision-making. By automating lesson planning, generating aligned assessments and producing curriculum-specific learning materials, MESO aims to reduce teacher workload while supporting more personalised learning experiences for students.
The spin-out comes as demand grows for purpose-built AI tools in education. Recent OECD research has highlighted the need for AI systems designed specifically for educational settings rather than general-purpose chatbots. MESO’s approach reflects this shift, focusing on curriculum alignment and classroom relevance as core features of its platform.
