Katsuhito Sudoh, Associate Professor from Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) will be holding a seminar at DCU Computing room L2.23c on August 25th at 2pm on ‘Simultaneous speech translation and its evaluation’. This research has been the focus of Prof. Satoshi Nakamura’s Augmented Human Communication Lab for over a decade as English-Japanese translation poses difficulty due to large word order difference yet is in demand in many applications.
Katsuhito will talk about research activity in this field: corpus and system development, and evaluation. – Corpus development: NAIST-SIC (https://dsc-nlp.naist.jp/data/NAIST-SIC/), English-Japanese Simultaneous Interpretation Corpus. – Speech-to-speech simultaneous machine translation system – Shared task in IWSLT (https://iwslt.org/2023/simultaneous, https://aclanthology.org/events/iwslt-2023/) including discussions about the evaluation of simultaneous translation
