eStór at Oireachtas

04 December 2023

From 2nd to the 4th November 2023, members of the eStór (https://estor.ie/) project team attended the Oireachtas na Samhna event in Killarney, Co. Kerry. The Oireachtas is an annual event, where the Irish language network come together for several days of competitions, performances, seminars, workshops, and a bit of craic.

eStór got the opportunity to set up shop with a stall in the Fair tent, where we spoke with members of the public and organisations about what eStór is, what our goals are and how they could help us achieve them.

This was a chance to speak to people working with and through the Irish language, who are the very people we want to help by creating better Irish language digital tools. We explained how data collection works and how public language data can be used to improve language technology.

On Saturday 4th, we held a workshop entitled Irish Language Technology and AI. Dr. Brian Davis from the ADAPT Centre discussed current language technology research, while Eoin O’Droighneán from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media presented the Digital Plan for Irish and government strategies for language technology. Emma Daly and Gráinne Caulfield from ADAPT Centre provided a presentation & demonstration of the eStór project and website, which you can find at https://estor.ie/
