DigiAcademy Wins Prestigious Social Impact Award at 2025 Association and Institute Awards

17 June 2025

DigiAcademy, an AI-powered digital learning platform supported by the ADAPT Centre at Trinity College Dublin, was awarded the Social Impact Award at the 2025 Association and Institute Awards last week. This honour recognises DigiAcademy’s pioneering role in advancing AI literacy and inclusive digital education through co-designed learning experiences with individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Beating out strong competition from the Irish Countrywomen’s Association (ICA), the Law Society of Ireland, and WITS Ireland (Women in Technology and Science), DigiAcademy’s win underscores the importance and effectiveness of inclusive innovation, as well as, ethically driven AI solutions. Leveraging artificial intelligence to personalise eLearning, DigiAcademy offers an adaptive, video-based platform that supports digital skill development specifically tailored for people with intellectual disabilities and autism.

Founded by Dr Esther Murphy from the School of Engineering at Trinity College Dublin and a member of ADAPT, DigiAcademy was co-created in partnership with its target learners, ensuring every aspect of the platform reflects their needs, strengths, and lived experiences. Beyond teaching essential digital skills, the platform is breaking new ground in building AI literacy and empowering users not only to navigate the digital world but also to understand and engage with the AI technologies shaping it.

DigiAcademy’s impact has been recognised beyond national borders, with the European Commission commending it as a best practice model. This accolade highlights how collaborative, inclusive design can unlock untapped talent and pave the way for more equitable digital futures.

Also winning big that night was the Learnovate Centre, taking home two prestigious awards: Best Membership Services for the second consecutive year, and Best Event for Learnovation 2024, a remarkable achievement for the entire Learnovate team.
