Christmas Message from ADAPT Director Prof. John Kelleher

18 December 2025

As we reach the end of 2025, I want to take a moment to thank every part of the ADAPT community – our researchers, industry partners, and members, funders, and friends – for your commitment, dedication and collaboration.

This year has reminded us, once again, of both the profound promise and the real challenges that come with the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence.  As AI continues to reshape our world at pace, the ADAPT community has remained at the forefront of multidisciplinary research that is tackling complex societal questions with integrity and foresight.  I am inspired by the curiosity, courage and creativity that our community has brought to bear on problems that matter and that work lays the foundation for what’s to come.

As well as our scientific achievements, one of the things I am most proud of is the kind of community we continue to build together in ADAPT.  Throughout 2025, we have worked hard to live up to our shared commitment to open exchange of ideas, freedom of thought and expression, and respectful scientific debate, using language to connect rather than to create barriers. In big moments and in everyday interactions, so many of you have embodied our values of respect, dignity, inclusion, equality and diversity, and that quiet, consistent commitment is at the heart of what makes ADAPT special.

As we look towards 2026, I am filled with optimism.  We will continue to tackle the big questions around AI with the same drive and purpose that has defined ADAPT from the start.  There is much to do, and I have no doubt that together we will meet the challenges and embrace the opportunities ahead with imagination, rigour and a deep sense of responsibility.

I want to extend my best wishes to our ADAPT community, near and far, and wish you and your loved ones a very happy, healthy, and peaceful holiday season!

Warmest wishes,
John Kelleher
Director, ADAPT at Trinity College Dublin
