ATHENA Project Launches New Podcast Series

28 February 2025

The ATHENA project has introduced a new podcast series that brings together experts to examine the impact of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) on daily life and to explore effective strategies to combat disinformation.

This podcast is part of the ATHENA project, a 3-year, €3.1m 14-partner EU-funded initiative under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. The first episode, hosted by Tim Bayer, HfoeD CEPOLIS, features Alexandre Alaphilippe, Executive Director at EUDisinfoLab, discussing the pervasive role of disinformation in shaping public perception.

ADAPT researchers Professor Owen Conlan and Dr Gary Munnelly of the School of Computer Science and Statistics in Trinity College Dublin and Professor Brendan Spillne of the School of Information and Communication Studies in University College Dublin are partners in the ATHENA project. The project is a strategic response by the European Union to the escalating threat of foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) with the aim of defending European democratic processes. The project’s insights and recommendations mark a vital step forward in understanding and addressing the complex challenges of FIMI.
