The latest episode of the For Tech’s Sake podcast features an interview with Laura Grehan, Head of Education, Engagement and Societal Impact at the ADAPT Research Ireland Centre.
Laura leads ADAPT’s award-winning public engagement team, which has reached approximately 85,000 people through the centre’s #DiscussAI initiative and other programmes designed to improve public understanding of artificial intelligence.
During the interview, Laura highlighted the success of #DiscussAI, an AI literacy initiative launched in 2021 that brings together researchers and diverse communities to explore the societal impacts of AI. The programme aims to build AI literacy, learn from lived experiences, and encourage meaningful public dialogue around emerging technologies. To date, #DiscussAI has engaged more than 85,000 participants and over 170 researchers across Ireland.
The conversation also focused on Age Friendly AI, a new national AI literacy initiative for older adults. Funded by the Research Ireland Discover Programme and led by TU Dublin and the Research Ireland ADAPT Centre, the project seeks to address the growing need for AI literacy among older people. The initiative will foster a national dialogue on AI and support the co-creation and delivery of an accessible and inclusive AI education programme developed specifically with and for older adults across Ireland.
The episode explores how AI literacy can help ensure that people of all ages are equipped to understand, engage with and shape the future of AI.
