ADAPT’s Age-Friendly AI Initiative Featured in International Report on AI and Ageing

14 August 2026

The ‘Age-Friendly AI’ National Artificial Intelligence Literacy Initiative for Older Adults has been recognised in the report Artificial Intelligence and the Aging Society, jointly developed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Ernst & Young (EY), and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Funded by the Research Ireland Discover Programme and led by TU Dublin and the ADAPT Research Ireland Centre, the initiative addresses the growing need for AI literacy among older adults in Ireland. The project has fostered a national dialogue on artificial intelligence with older people and co-created and delivered an accessible and inclusive AI literacy programme developed specifically with and for older adults.

The initiative engages more than 60,000 older people across Ireland, providing opportunities to share their views, concerns and ideas about AI. These insights are regularly communicated to key stakeholders shaping AI research, innovation and governance, including policymakers, AI developers and researchers.

The initiative builds on ADAPT’s #DiscussAI National Conversation on Artificial Intelligence (est. 2021), which has already engaged more than 85,000 people nationwide in learning and discussions about the role of AI in society.

Age-Friendly AI has established over 20 partnerships, including Age Action, Age Friendly Ireland, Media Literacy Ireland, the Centre for Smart Ageing, the public libraries network, Workday, the RDI Hub, the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) and Senior Times.

The inclusion of the Age-Friendly AI initiative in this international report highlights Ireland’s growing contribution to efforts that ensure older adults are actively involved in shaping the future development and adoption of Artificial Intelligence.
