Michał Wieczorek, ADAPT researcher and Assistant Professor at University College Dublin, recently organised a full-day symposium exploring the future of education in Ireland, bringing together educators, researchers and stakeholders for a day of discussion, creativity and collaboration.
The event opened with a keynote address by Oliver McGarr, titled “Hopeful Futures Beyond Corporate Imaginaries”. The session was captured through live visual illustrations created by Bryan Mathers of Visual Thinkery.
Participants also took part in an interactive workshop led by Michał and Eamon Costello, where participants were challenged to develop marketing and compliance pitches for familiar classroom objects. The activity forms part of an ongoing collaborative project exploring the intersection of education, technology and creativity.
The symposium concluded with a futures-focused session that invited participants to imagine ambitious and hopeful futures for Irish education without the usual constraints of resources, political priorities or time.
The event was supported by the ADAPT Centre and Research Ireland, with contributions from colleagues in UCD’s School of Education and the Cyberwise research centre.
