ADAPT TCD’s eAltra Named Best Emerging AI Company at Spark Crowdfunding Awards

09 April 2025

eAltra has been announced as the winner of the Best Emerging AI category at the recent Spark Crowdfunding Top 100 Most Ambitious Companies in Ireland event. The recognition, earned through a unique investor-driven voting system, highlights eAltra’s growing impact in the AI and healthcare space.

This win marks a significant milestone for eAltra, a Trinity College Dublin campus company built on research from the ADAPT Centre. eAltra develops conversational AI technology designed to improve the way cancer patients undergo remote assessments and exchange clinical information. Currently being trialed at hospitals such as St. James’s and Tallaght University Hospital in Dublin, the platform has been well received by clinicians and was also featured in the British Journal of Maxillofacial Surgery.

Founded by Denis Roche, a seasoned expert in digitising patient care with over 25 years of experience, eAltra addresses a pressing global issue: under-capacity in cancer care delivery. With a deep background in cognitive computing and data analytics, Roche founded eAltra to tackle global under-capacity in cancer care delivery. The company, which spun out of TCD in June 2024, has also secured Commercialisation Funding from Enterprise Ireland.

The recognition at Spark Crowdfunding not only reflects eAltra’s innovative work but also the strength of Ireland’s AI research ecosystem. Built from the ground up with support from ADAPT, and powered by the ambition of its team, eAltra stands as a testament to the potential of academic spinouts to make real-world impact in critical sectors.
