ADAPT & TCD’s Chris Byrne Addresses OECD Education 2040 Forum on Curriculum-Focused AI

30 April 2026

Dr Chris Byrne, ADAPT member and founder and CEO of MESO, recently presented to the OECD Thematic Working Group on Education 2040. He joined curriculum designers, researchers and ministry leaders from across the globe to discuss the future of teaching and learning.

MESO is developing curriculum-specific planning tools for Irish post-primary teachers, grounded in educational research, teacher agency and curriculum fidelity. The platform supports the full planning pipeline, from lesson and unit plans to assessment design and classroom resources, with curriculum intelligence embedded throughout.

A key theme from the session was that the most effective AI in education is purpose-built for specific curricula, rather than adapted from general tools. MESO, a spin-out from the ADAPT Centre at Trinity College Dublin, uses AI to automate planning, generate aligned assessments and reduce administrative workload, enabling teachers to focus more on student learning.
