ADAPT Researchers Named Among Silicon Republic’s 30 Remarkable Women to Watch in Ireland’s STEM Sector

Two researchers associated with ADAPT, the Research Ireland Centre for AI-Driven Digital Content Technology, have been recognised in Silicon Republic’s list of 30 Remarkable Women to Watch in Ireland’s STEM Space.

Prof. Abeba Birhane and Dr. Dympna O’Sullivan were highlighted for their significant contributions to artificial intelligence research, ethics and innovation, as well as their leadership in shaping the future of responsible AI.

Prof. Abeba Birhane, founder and principal investigator of the Artificial Intelligence Accountability Lab at Trinity College Dublin and ADAPT and assistant professor in the School of Computer Science and Statistics, was recognised for her internationally acclaimed work in cognitive AI, AI ethics and the societal impacts of emerging technologies. Her achievements include serving on both the United Nations Secretary-General’s AI Advisory Body and Ireland’s AI Advisory Council. She has also received numerous honours, including recognition on the TIME100 Most Influential People in AI list and the Distinguished Paper Award at the IEEE Conference on Secure and Trustworthy Machine Learning.

Dr. Dympna O’Sullivan, Vice-President for Research and Innovation at Technological University Dublin, was recognised for her work in human-centred AI, particularly the development of assistive technologies that support independent living for people with age-related cognitive impairments. A strong advocate for responsible AI and digital ethics, she has played a key role in advancing public engagement, education and policy discussions around artificial intelligence.
