23 October 2026

ADAPT researchers and projects have been recognised across three categories at the 2026 AI Ireland Awards, highlighting the Centre’s contributions to artificial intelligence research, responsible AI and public-sector innovation.

Louise McCormack has been named a finalist for AI Person of the Year. A trustworthy AI researcher and governance specialist, Louise is the founder of the Irish Alliance for Trustworthy AI, advancing transparency, accountability and the practical implementation of responsible AI frameworks.

In the Best Application of AI in the Public Sector category, ADAPT’s Sea-Scan project showcases how AI can support maritime awareness and critical infrastructure monitoring. Developed by ADAPT and Trinity College Dublin researchers, Sea-Scan combines AI with subsea fibre-optic sensing to detect and classify vessels, contributing to public safety and national resilience.

Meanwhile, ADAPT’s Precision ALS project has been recognised in the Best Use of Responsible AI and Ethics category. The project applies responsible AI principles to research involving people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), prioritising data privacy, independent validation and accountability throughout research workflows.

The AI Ireland Awards celebrate achievements in artificial intelligence across academia and industry, recognising individuals and organisations advancing AI innovation in Ireland.

The 2026 awards ceremony will take place on 17 November 2026 at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Dublin.
