ADAPT Researcher Publishes Paper Addressing Importance of User Engagement Features in mHealth App Design

05 October 2023

ADAPT PhD Student, Tochukwu Ikwunne (Trinity College Dublin), recently announced a new publication highlighting the importance of user engagement features when developing mobile health apps. The paper is titled “A sociotechnical approach for developing mobile health apps in underserved settings”.

The paper addresses the sociotechnical aspects of mobile health (mHealth) interventions in the Global South. According to the paper, user engagement features of mHealth are largely ignored during the design, development and implementation stages. The aim of this research is to highlight the importance of these features when developing mHealth apps.

The paper was published September 2023 via the peer-reviewed Digital Health open access journal. The paper was co-authored by Prof. Lucy Hederman (Trinity College Dublin) and Dr. P.J Wall (Technological University Dublin).
