#WomenOfADAPT series launched to celebrate International Women’s Day

To mark International Women’s Day (IWD), the ADAPT Centre for Digital Content Technologies launched its annual #WomenOfADAPT series, highlighting the impressive achievements of the women working within the world leading SFI Research Centre. A core part of the series was a panel discussion hosted by ADAPT, featuring five inspiring women who are working in various roles in technology and digital content industry. Held in the Bank of Ireland Workbench Space in Trinity College Dublin, the public forum was an open discussion with our accomplished panellists sharing their personal stories, professional perspectives, and insights on accelerating impact in their field.

Chaired by Dr Máire Brophy, EU Research Manager in ADAPT, the #WomenofADAPT Panel featured four experts from a range of fields from within the Centre.  The panel consisted of psychologist and award-winning science communicator Prof Sabina Brennan, Senior Programme Manager Clare Conran, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow Dr Ilaria Torre, and machine translation expert, with particular focus on the Irish Language, Dr Teresa Lynn. These women specialise in areas including machine translation, natural language processing, neuroscience, programme management, funding diversification and multimodal interaction.

Speaking at the event Dr Máire Brophy said; “Today’s event highlighted the visionary role women play in the technology sector. As academics, researchers and managers, women are shaping the future of technology. Celebrating these achievements and contributions is crucial to ensure the true impact of women in technology is recognised. I hope today’s event encourages more women to get involved in tech and to realise how valuable their contribution is.”

During the panel the women explored their motivations for pursuing a career in technology, shared snippets of their research and discussed what they find most satisfying about their work. The panellists also shared how they have helped shape the vision of the ADAPT Centre to transform how people communicate through the next generation of digital technologies.

The forum was livestreamed via the ADAPT Twitter @ADAPTCentre and is available to view online here.
