ADAPT Director Prof. John Kelleher Speaks on AI in Heart Disease at International Workshop

05 November 2025

ADAPT Director Prof. John D. Kelleher, delivered a talk last month at the Cardiovascular Risk Assessment, Big Data, and AI: A Hands-On Cardiovascular Risk Workshop hosted by Fondazione Menarini in Fiesole, Italy.

His presentation, titled “How Artificial Intelligence Is Shaping the Future of Cardiovascular Disease Risk Prediction”, focused on how artificial intelligence and machine learning can improve cardiovascular disease risk prediction. Traditional risk models rely on limited patient data and simple statistical techniques. In contrast, the presentation highlighted that AI can analyse larger and more complex datasets, such as genetic information, medical imaging, and electronic health records, to uncover hidden risk patterns and improve early detection.

He also highlighted the need for trustworthy AI in healthcare, stressing the importance of explainable models and high-quality data. The workshop brought together international experts in cardiology, data science, and digital health to explore practical AI applications in cardiovascular care.
