ADAPT DCU Researcher Receives Honourable Mention at ACM IDC 2025

07 August 2025

ADAPT Centre researcher Kanishk Verma, based at Dublin City University, received an ‘Honourable Mention’ award at the ACM’s 24th Interaction Design and Children (IDC) Conference, held from 23rd to 25th June 2025.

The award was given for a work-in-progress presentation titled “From Users to Co-Designers: Youth Participation in Understanding Cyberbullying”. The project focuses on developing a novel benchmarking dataset for cyberbullying detection among teens. The dataset was co-created with transition year students through the Young Researcher Assistant Programme, which introduced teens to AI and Python programming while involving them in the research process.

Co-authored with Brian Davis (ADAPT, DCU), Tijana Milosevic (School of Information and Communication Studies, University College Dublin) and Rebecca Umbach (Google, USA), the work highlights the value of youth participation in designing tools to better understand and address online harms.
