ADAPT DCU’s Dr Joss Moorkens is set to deliver a keynote address this week at the Machine Translation Summit in Geneva, Switzerland, one of the most prominent gatherings for the global machine translation research community. Held every three years, the summit convenes regional associations from Europe, Asia, and the Americas to share cutting-edge developments in the field.
In his talk, Dr Moorkens will present findings from recent evaluations of language translation powered by Generative AI, and discuss the challenges of applying a triple bottom line of ‘people, planet and performance’ in Gen AI evaluation. He will also discuss the responsibility researchers now carry as their work gains greater public visibility and potential for societal impact. While this heightened scrutiny may introduce new challenges, it also possibly opens up opportunities for researchers to make meaningful contributions to the common good. The keynote is part of a packed program available on the summit’s official website.
