Smart D8 wins significant ‘Innovation in Public Administration’ Award in the European Public Sector Awards 2023-24

Smart D8, an initiative aimed at enhancing the health and wellness of Dublin 8 residents through collaboration and innovation, recently clinched a notable Innovation in Public Administration Award in the European Public Sector Awards (EPSA) 2023-24. The project secured the second position out of 79 contenders in the ‘Innovation in Public Administration’ category, earning an impressive achievement within the top 2.5% of the awards. The ADAPT Centre is collaborating closely with Smart D8 for an engaged research and ethics framework, supporting the programme by building on ADAPT’s extensive research expertise in advanced technology, AI, education and public engagement, data interoperability, data and technology governance and ethics, and healthcare.

Additionally, Smart D8 was also recently selected as a finalist in the Digital Community category of the Digital Town Awards 2024. The winners will be unveiled during a gala awards ceremony scheduled for May 24th in Athlone, Co. Westmeath.

Located in Dublin, Smart D8 focuses on the diverse population of Dublin 8, uniting various stakeholders from industry, academia, healthcare, public organisations, and citizens. Connecting a diversity of public sector bodies in a consortium led by The Digital Hub Development Agency, Dublin City Council, Smart Dublin and St. James’ Hospital, Smart D8 is developing a broad approach to population health and wellbeing. In the face of increasing challenges in healthcare delivery. Smart D8’s prospective approach to population health engages communities on a large scale to encompass illness prevention as well as treatment in the community, mitigating the onset of illnesses.

By fostering connections between citizens, service providers, innovation partners, and funding sources, Smart D8 presents a distinctive opportunity to enhance urban health and well-being. Smart D8 is looking to engage and collaborate with enterprises, academic institutions, and public and private sector organisations who want to demonstrate their innovative solutions with the local community – to scale real-world impact on a wide range of social and economic determinants.
