ADAPT researcher Professor Ashish Kumar Jha of Trinity College Dublin Business School has been featured in a recent Forbes article exploring how leading organisations are using artificial intelligence to empower employees rather than replace them.
The article, The Companies Winning With AI Aren’t Replacing Workers, highlights growing evidence that organisations achieve greater long-term value from AI when it is used to augment human capabilities, support decision-making and foster innovation, rather than focusing solely on workforce reduction.
Ashish describes the challenge as “an agency and incentive problem,” noting that senior leaders often view AI through the lens of strategy and efficiency, while employees experience the day-to-day impact of new technologies on their work. He argues that workers are more likely to embrace AI when they are involved in decisions about its adoption, understand its benefits, and trust that it is being introduced to support rather than threaten their roles.
The article also points to employee concerns around AI adoption, with many workers expressing fears about job displacement and a lack of trust in AI systems. Experts warn that an automation-first approach can undermine creativity, judgment and leadership development, while successful AI strategies focus on improving the quality of work and expanding employee potential.
