Last Friday, March 28th, marked a proud and historic moment for the European Master in Law, Data and Artificial Intelligence (EMILDAI) when students, faculty, and staff celebrated the graduation of its very first cohort. This milestone represents the culmination of two years of interdisciplinary study, critical thinking, and hands-on research undertaken by a group of exceptional students from across Europe and beyond.
Launched in 2022 with the support of the European Commission’s Erasmus Mundus programme, EMILDAI is a pioneering international master’s initiative coordinated by Dublin City University (DCU), in collaboration with Avignon Université (France), Universidad de León (Spain), and Università di Pisa (Italy). The programme is designed to equip students with the legal, ethical, and technical expertise needed to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of data and AI governance.
EMILDAI is unique in its integration of law, data science, and artificial intelligence, preparing graduates to become critical thinkers and leaders at the intersection of technology and society. Over the course of two years, students engage in a dynamic, cross-border learning experience that includes academic exchanges, research-driven coursework, and real-world challenges in areas such as data protection, digital regulation, algorithmic accountability, and human rights.
As these graduates step into the next phase of their careers that will take them on journeys such as policymaking, academia, legal practice, or tech industry roles, the entire EMILDAI team celebrates their resilience, curiosity, and commitment to public interest-driven innovation. Their work exemplifies the mission of EMILDAI: to cultivate global leaders who can shape AI technologies in ways that are transparent, fair, and aligned with democratic values.
All of ADAPT would like to extend our congratulations to the EMILDAI Class of 2025 and we look forward to seeing the ways you will contribute to shaping a more ethical and inclusive digital future. You will always have a home in the EMILDAI and ADAPT communities.
