The ‘Age Friendly AI’ National Artificial Intelligence Literacy Initiative for Older Adults aims to address the growing need for AI Literacy among older adults in Ireland.
Funded by the Research Ireland Discover Programme and led by TU Dublin and the Research Ireland ADAPT Centre, the initiative will foster a national dialogue on AI with older adults across Ireland, and co-create and deliver a comprehensive, accessible and inclusive national AI literacy programme developed specifically with and for older adults.
Over two years, the initiative will give a voice to more than 60,000 older people about AI and communicate their views, concerns and ideas to key stakeholders driving and governing AI research and innovation, including policy makers, AI vendors, and AI researchers. The initiative builds on ADAPT’s #DiscussAI national dialogue on AI, which has engaged more than 80,000 people across Ireland in learning and conversations about the role of AI in our lives.
Project partners include organisations such as Age Action, Age Friendly Ireland, the Centre for Smart Ageing, the public libraries network, Workday, the RDI Hub, the National Disability Authority and Senior Times.
The project team consists of Paula Kelly, Dr Dympna O’Sullivan and Dr Damon Berry from Technological University Dublin and Dr Emma Clarke, Laura Grehan and Dr Cara Greene from the Education and Public Engagement Team at the Research Ireland ADAPT Centre. The team has significant expertise in digital inclusion and citizen engagement and demonstrates a proven ability to deliver impactful initiatives aimed at bridging the digital skills gap for older people.
