TRANSMIXR Project Concludes After 39 Months of Social XR Innovation

24 February 2026

After nearly three and a half years of research, experimentation and collaboration, the European TRANSMIXR project has officially drawn to a close, marking the end of a 39-month effort to reshape remote content production and consumption through Social Extended Reality (XR).

Launched in October 2022 in Athlone, Ireland, at the Technological University of the Shannon, the initiative united 20 partners from 12 countries, later expanding to 22, around a shared ambition: to create human-centric AI and XR tools for the cultural and creative sectors. Its work targeted news media, broadcasting, performing arts and cultural heritage, with a focus on enabling large-scale media understanding and delivering immersive, next-generation experiences.

The project was led by Dr. Niall Murray, a researcher at TUS and the ADAPT Centre. Under his leadership, TRANSMIXR developed practical tools designed to help organisations better manage and interpret complex media content while embracing Social XR technologies.
