DigiAcademy Showcases Inclusive Digital Innovation at University of Galway’s PPI Festival

09 December 2025

DigiAcademy joined the University of Galway’s PPI Festival: Empowering Inclusive Digital Futures recently, highlighting how inclusive design and adaptive technology can open digital opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities and other accessibility needs. The day unfolded across two focused sessions: a PPI-funded workshop in the morning and the launch of a new pilot programme with Cumas students and staff in the afternoon, supported by HEA Path 4 funding.

The programme began with a presentation from Dr. Esther Murphy (TCD School of Engineering/ADAPT), CEO and founder of DigiAcademy Technology, titled “Empowering Inclusive Digital Futures: The Digi-ID Co-Design Project and DigiAcademy Experience”. Her talk set the tone for a day centred on empowerment and practical inclusion. DigiAcademy teachers followed with presentations that shared their experience and expertise in delivering inclusive digital learning.

Built through co-design, DigiAcademy is an accessible e-learning platform tailored for people with intellectual disabilities, autism, and diverse accessibility needs. Its AI-powered adaptive learning system adjusts content to each learner’s abilities and pace, while peer-led, video-based lessons support confidence, well-being, and employability. The initiative continues to gain international recognition for pushing digital inclusion from aspiration to reality.

One learner reflected on the experience, sharing: “Seeing the programme led by teachers like me is something I’ve never experienced before. It’s inspiring.” Moments like this highlight the impact and power of peer-led digital education.
