AICS’25 Showcased Advances in AI and Cognitive Science in Dublin

15 December 2025

The 33rd Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science conference (AICS’25) took place from the 1st to the 2nd December 2025 at the Hyatt Centric Liberties in Dublin, bringing together researchers to examine the latest developments in AI and cognitive science.

Hosted by the School of Computing at Dublin City University in collaboration with the ADAPT and Insight Research Ireland Centres, the conference continued AICS’s long-standing role as Ireland’s leading forum for AI and cognitive science research. With roots dating back to 1988, AICS’25 attracted contributions from researchers in Ireland and abroad, encouraging international collaboration across both technical and experiential research areas.

ADAPT researchers featured prominently on the programme committee, including ADAPT Deputy Director Prof. Cathal Gurrin (DCU), reflecting the centre’s strong involvement in shaping the conference agenda.

The conference featured keynote addresses from Dr Mahnaz Arvaneh, Director of the Physiological Signals and Systems Lab at the University of Sheffield, and Dr Mattia Fumagalli, Senior Manager of Machine Learning at Etsy. Dr Arvaneh’s keynote explored how AI can improve the reliability of neurotechnologies such as brain-computer interfaces, helping move them from laboratory settings into real-world clinical and home use. Dr Fumagalli examined the growing role of generative AI in e-commerce, highlighting multimodal large language models and their application at scale within Etsy.

Across two days of talks and discussions, AICS’25 highlighted the practical and societal impact of AI and cognitive science research, reinforcing Dublin’s position as a hub for innovation in the field.
