Riccardo (they/them) is a mixed-method PhD Researcher at the AI Accountability lab, under the supervision of Dr Abeba Birhane. Their decade-long experience – in interdisciplinary teams investigating social dynamics, overtrust in decision support systems, and sociotechnical auditing of predictive and generative stochastic systems – today shapes their PhD project on authoritarianism, technology-facilitated eugenics and necropolitics, corporate capture of the public interest by Big AI companies, online platforms and search engines.
Their joint work with the NGOs AI Forensics and AlgorithmWatch has been featured in The Washington Post, WIRED, The Verge, Die Zeit, NOS Nieuwsuur, and numerous other European media outlets. Their research has also been cited by Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Julia Angwin, digital ethics scholar Luciano Floridi, and the Reuters Institute, and has informed formal proceedings of the European Commission as well as expert testimony before the U.S. Congress.
