Helen is Irish Language Technology Project Officer on the PRINCIPLE (Providing Resources in Irish, Norweigan, Croation and Icelandic for purposes of Language Engineering) project (https://principleproject.eu/). Her role involves liasing with Government departments, city and county councils, universities and other public bodies and agencies and publicly funded organisations to obtain Irish language resources for the development of Irish language technology, primarily machine translation. Before PRINCIPLE, Helen worked on the ELRI project (https://elri.dcu.ie/), contributing to the launch of the first ever national online platform for the collection of Irish language resources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5jjJHomlJo

Helen is currently halfway through a Research Masters in the School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore, UCD, collecting undocumented vocabulary from female native Irish speakers in the Dú Chaocháin Gaeltacht, Mayo. On top of compiling a vocabulary of previously unrecorded words and terms, the outcomes of the research include investigating linguistic features of the Dú Chaocháin dialect, including use of the present and past subjunctive, analytical and synthetic verb forms and plural noun forms that are particular to this dialect of Irish.
