Alok Debnath is a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Computer Science and Statistics in Trinity College Dublin. He works with Prof. Owen Conlan on emotion in the human-LLM paradigm of language. His doctoral thesis proposed using a cognitive basis for a computational representation of fine-grained emotion for conversational agents. HIs postdoctoral work focuses on capturing the expression of emotion in sensitive domains (such as mental health, hate speech, and disinformation) with behavioural outcomes (like empathy, anthropomorphism, and sycophancy) for English as well as other lower resource languages (in the lorAI project). His research experience in natural language processing includes developing corpora for news event analysis, proposing a calculus for Hindi syntax, and modelling pragmatic characteristics of language.
