ADAPT welcomes EU Digital Diplomacy Network to Trinity College Dublin

16 October 2026

Members of the European Union’s Digital Diplomacy Network (DDN) visited Trinity this week as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The visit began with a tour of the Book of Kells and Old Library, before delegates took part in a roundtable at Trinity Business School on the internationalisation of European digital SMEs.  Co-hosted by Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and ADAPT, the roundtable, “Small But Competitive: Internationalisation of EU SMEs,” explored how European SMEs can grow internationally and contribute to the EU’s wider digital competitiveness agenda.

The discussion focused on how SMEs can benefit from the EU’s International Digital Strategy and EU Tech Business Offer, including the opportunities and barriers they face when entering new markets and how European strengths such as security, openness, interoperability and data sovereignty can support their international positioning.

The roundtable brought together Digital Diplomacy Network delegates from across the European Union with representatives from the European Commission, Government, industry, and Trinity, including digital technology companies working across a range of sectors.

The visit formed part of a wider programme of EU Presidency engagement at Trinity, following recent visits by the EU Defence Industry Working Party and the Horizontal Working Party on Cyber Issues, providing opportunities to connect Irish research and innovation with European policy priorities.
