Artificial intelligence and climate change will shape the world today’s students inherit.
GreenFutures is a free Transition Year learning programme that helps students explore how AI and digital technologies can support climate action while also examining their environmental and social impact.

Led by the Research Ireland ADAPT Centre at Trinity College Dublin, in partnership with UNESCO and Huawei Ireland, GreenFutures gives young people the opportunity to explore how AI can help solve environmental challenges while understanding the impact digital technologies have on our planet.
Today’s Transition Year students will graduate into a world where AI and environmental sustainability will influence almost every career.

GreenFutures is a free, four-hour Transition Year learning programme, developed in collaboration with teachers, researchers and education specialists.
Aligned with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) Transition Year framework and informed by UNESCO’s Greening Curriculum principles, the programme combines climate literacy, digital literacy and responsible AI through engaging, classroom-ready learning experiences.
GreenFutures brings together expertise in artificial intelligence, education, sustainability and digital innovation.
Together, our partners are helping students understand how technology is changing society, and also how they can use technology to help shape the future responsibly.
Project partners include UNESCO, Huawei Ireland and Learnovate, working alongside the Research Ireland ADAPT Centre at Trinity College Dublin.
The project team consists of Dr Jelena Radakovic Goodwin (TCD), Dr Mairéad O’Donnell (TCD), Dr Steven Davy (TUD) and Olivia Waters from the Research Ireland ADAPT Centre at TCD, and combines expertise in digital inclusion, climate education, artificial intelligence, public engagement and educational innovation.
GreenFutures is currently being developed for Transition Year classrooms across Ireland.
