Translation in the Age of Technology: Lecture from ADAPT DCU Academic Prof. Joss Moorkens

26 March 2026

On Wednesday 18th March 2026, ADAPT Dublin City University academic Prof. Joss Moorkens delivered the Joseph Eynaud Memorial Lecture 2026 at the University of Malta.

Titled “Translation: The Canary in the Coalmine,” the lecture explored how the translation profession is among the first to experience the impact of emerging technologies on the workplace.

He was joined by Valter Mavrič of the University of Malta and the event was opened with a welcome address from Dr Claudine Borg, Head of Department of Translation, Terminology and Interpreting Studies.

The lecture forms part of a busy international schedule for Joss in the coming weeks. He is set to speak at the AI Localisation Thinktank during AI ThoughtCon, followed by an invited talk at Thammasat University in Bangkok on the 7th April. Additional engagements include a presentation at the European Parliament on 14th April, a book launch at the APTIS conference in Cardiff on the 16th April, and a joint event hosted by the Royal Irish Academy and the University of Notre Dame on the 17th April.

The series of appearances underscores growing international interest in how language technologies are reshaping communication, labour, and policy.
