Elizabeth is a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow at TU Dublin and the ADAPT Centre. She is a critical qualitative researcher who focuses on how technologies are used in practice. She has a PhD in Information Science from UC Berkeley and a Master of City Planning from MIT. Her dissertation project, “Scoring Space: How home-seekers make sense of place, platform and metrics,” investigated how people in Oakland, CA and Las Vegas, NV searched for housing online during the COVID pandemic. It combines interviews with home-seekers and housing experts, and online and in-person observations. Before her PhD Elizabeth lived in Nairobi, Kenya for four years and worked at the intersection of transportation and civic technology with a range of actors, from local startups to the World Bank. For her postdoctoral research she aims to return to this research context to study how AI tools are being incorporated into global development projects.
