Claudia Silva Battagin is a PhD candidate in Law at Trinity College Dublin, supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network HARNESS. She is supervised by Dr Maria Grazia Porcedda and Professor David Lewis. Her research investigates how the European Union’s regulatory framework for artificial intelligence and data-intensive technologies balances technological innovation with the protection of fundamental rights, mapping legal tools for trustworthiness, risk management, liability, and compliance. She holds LL.M. degrees from Trinity College Dublin (International and Comparative Law) and the University of São Paulo (Private Law), and an LL.B from Mackenzie University. Her LL.M. dissertation at Trinity examined liability for harm caused by AI systems, from a comparative European and Brazilian perspective. Prior to her doctoral studies, Claudia worked for over a decade in dispute resolution at top-tier Brazilian law firms, most recently as a Senior Associate at Demarest Advogados in São Paulo. Her research interests encompass AI regulation, law and technology, EU law, civil liability, and comparative private law.
