ADAPT were invited by the Department of the Taoiseach to attend this year’s Data Summit event, hosted by Dublin’s Convention Centre. The theme of this year’s Summit focused on the question of “What does the Data Society mean to you?”. ADAPT researchers presented 14 posters displaying their innovative and expertise research in data technology, examples of which ranged from sentiment analysis of tweets on RTE’s 2016 general election and budget, to visualisation of financial data through virtual reality.

The ADAPT Centre’s research posters were showcased alongside those of Insight and Connect, forming an impressive exhibition that comprised Ireland’s three Research Centres funded by Science Foundation Ireland. This showcase complemented the event’s agenda which was packed with various talks, seminars, and panel discussions surrounding the topics of data management, data security, and data analytics.

The event culminated with a speech from newly-appointed Taoiseach Leo Varadkar on his first full day in office. Taoiseach Varadkar took some time to visit the Science Foundation Ireland showcase at the Summit, and engaged greatly with researchers from ADAPT. The clear commendation given to ADAPT by the Taoiseach is an excellent indicator of the national value and impact of the world-class research being led by ADAPT.
