Professor Naomi Harte Appointed Fellow of Trinity College Dublin

On Trinity Monday, Provost of Trinity, Dr Patrick Prendergast, surrounded by members of the Board of the College in full academic gowns announced that Professor Naomi Harte had been elected to Fellowship of the College.  Fellowship is awarded on the basis of serious scholarly research of international standing, coupled with evidence of the candidate’s contribution to the academic life of the College and an effective record in teaching.  This year 14 new Fellows, and one Honorary Fellow were announced.

Naomi Harte is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering and a Co-Principal Investigator at the ADAPT Centre.  She received her degree in Electronic Engineering (BA BAI) from Trinity College Dublin, and holds a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast.

Since being appointed SFI Lecturer in Digital Media Systems in 2008, Dr Harte has explored topics in human speech communication.  Her principal areas of focus are audio visual speech processing, speaker ageing, emotion in speech, speech quality, and bird song analysis.

She is a member of the highly successful Sigmedia Research Group in the School of Engineering and a Co-PI in the ADAPT Centre.  She has published widely in peer reviewed conferences and journals.  In 2015, she was a visiting professor at ISCI in Berkeley, USA.  She holds technology patents and licences through her collaboration with Google in the USA.  She has successfully made the challenging transition from industry to academia and continues to bring a real-world agenda to her research.
